Animal husbandry, beekeeping, and the cultivation of sugar cane, fruits, and rubber trees were the agricultural sectors that suffered the most losses from the fires recorded last week in the state of São Paulo.

“The fires caused losses of over BRL 1 billion to São Paulo agriculture, with the burning of crops, pastures, and even the death of animals, a survey by the state secretariat for agriculture shows,” said the state government.

The Civil Defense kept 22 areas of the state on alert for fires even after the arrival of a cold front that brought rain and knocked down temperatures in the Brazilian Southeast.

The São Paulo government has made BRL 110 million available to rural producers affected by the fire.
