A shipment of medicines, collected by the Consulate General of Lebanon in Rio de Janeiro and sourced from donations by pharmaceutical companies, has been sent to Lebanon on an aircraft designated for repatriating Brazilians.

The 6.3-ton cargo was sent in two stages. The first shipment was transported on October 15, followed by the second on Saturday, October 19. Lebanon has been enduring military invasions and bombings by Israel.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Brazilian government has already dispatched five shipments of medicines, disposable syringes, and rehydration packets from the public health stocks of the Ministry of Health to Lebanon. Additionally, food baskets collected by the Lebanese Embassy in Brasília, in collaboration with the United for Lebanon Association (UPL), and by the Lebanese Consulate General in Rio de Janeiro have also been sent.

Repatriated

To date, Operation Cedar Roots has repatriated 1,317 individuals, including 242 children, 40 infants, 138 elderly people, 12 pregnant women, 101 people with health complications, 12 individuals with disabilities, and 15 pets.

The most recent flight, operated by a KC-30 aircraft from the Brazilian Air Force's Corsair Squadron, landed last Saturday morning (19) at Guarulhos International Airport in São Paulo, carrying over 200 passengers and a cat.

This was the sixth repatriation flight, and a seventh is currently in progress. Approximately 3,000 Brazilians living in Lebanon have registered for repatriation.

Invasion

Since the end of September, the Israeli armed forces, engaged in conflict in the Gaza Strip that has resulted in tens of thousands of civilian casualties, have redirected their efforts toward Lebanon, located on Israel's northern border, conducting ground invasions and aerial bombardments.

Israel asserts that it aims to neutralize the Hezbollah movement to enable approximately 60,000 Israeli citizens from northern communities to return to their homes after being displaced by rocket fire in the region.

According to a tally by the AFP news agency based on official figures, approximately 1,400 people have been killed in Lebanon so far, the majority of whom are civilians.
