Foreign Minister Luiz Alberto Figueiredo Machado traveled to Caracas on Tuesday (Apr. 15) to attend a second meeting between Venezuelan government and representatives from the Democratic Unity Roundtable (MUD), a coalition of opposition parties. The meeting aims to establish a dialogue between the two opposing sides and work towards a solution to the crisis the country has been facing in the last two months, with violent demonstrations that have left 40 people dead and hundreds injured.

The Brazilian minister, along with his peers in Colombia and Ecuador, are attending the meeting as representatives of the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR), as part of a committee set up on March 12 to support and facilitate political dialogue between the Venezuelan adversaries.

Figueiredo Machado has been to Caracas on at least three occasions in an attempt to advance the dialogue between the government and the opposition, who have been exchanging mutual accusations on the media.
