President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva is paying an official visit to Argentina. This is his first international trip since his inauguration on January 1.

During his two-day stay in the capital, Buenos Aires, Lula will meet with the country's President Alberto Fernández and with businessmen. He will also sign bilateral agreements and participate in the summit meeting of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), which brings together the 33 countries of Latin America and the Caribbean.

During his meeting with Fernández, scheduled for today, bilateral topics of interest will be discussed, such as energy integration, trade and investment, infrastructure, defense and disarmament.

After the meeting, the Brazilian and Argentinean presidents will sign cooperation agreements and make a press statement. One of the planned agreements is that of scientific and logistical cooperation in the scientific stations of both countries in Antarctica.

Later today, Lula will participate in a meeting with businessmen and together with Alberto Fernández he will attend a concert with Argentine and Brazilian artists at the Kirchner Cultural Center.

CELAC Summit

On Tuesday (Jan. 24), in Buenos Aires, Lula will participate in the 7th CELAC Summit, and sign the final declaration of the heads of state on topics such as food security and energy integration in the region. Another 12 thematic declarations should address issues such as nuclear energy, ocean sustainability, and the fight against drug and weapons trafficking, among others.

Uruguay

After his visit to Buenos Aires, Lula will travel to Montevideo, Uruguay's capital, also on an official visit. Besides bilateral meetings, he is expected to meet with Uruguay's leftist leader and former President José Pepe Mujica.
