Aline Rocha bags bronze in Paralympic cross-country skiing worlds

The Brazilian won the country’s first medal in the 18 km race

Brazil was off to a good start in the World Paralympic Cross-Country Skiing on the first day of the competition in Ostersund, Sweden. On Sunday (Jan. 22), athlete Aline Rocha won the bronze medal in the 18 km race by finishing in 1h09min09s6. The gold went to US American Kendall Gretsch (1h02min32s8), and the silver to German Anja Wicker (1h05min37s2).

The Brazilian skier will compete again in the sprint race next Tuesday (24). The competition goes on until January 29, with live streaming on the Facebook account of the International Ski Federation.

Brazil also had three representatives in the men’s 18 km race. Cristian Ribera, Paralympic world vice-champion last year, finished in sixth place; Guilherme Rocha in 11th, and Wesley Vinícius dos Santos in 12th. Italian Giuseppe Romele won gold and Ukrainian Pavlo Bal took silver.

The fifth Brazilian in the world championships is 19-year-old Elena Rocha—the only participating in an international competition for the first time. She did not compete on Sunday (22).
