President-elect says Brazil’s sovereignty should be respected
Amid responses like the one given by the Cuban government, who suspended its partnership with Brazil’s More Doctors program, President-Elect Jair Bolsonaro once again advocated the protection of Brazilian principles. On a social network site, he said Monday (Nov. 19) the country will keep good diplomatic relations, but will demand respect for its sovereignty.
“In order for us to resume growth as a nation, we need to make our sovereignty and our laws effective. We must respect the whole world, but also be respected. We will be a friendly Brazil, but a country with its basic values and principles,” he stated on his Twitter page.
In Bolsonaro’s last statements on the partnership with Cuba, the president-elect stressed the working conditions of Cuban medics, but said he will work on a solution to address their absence after he takes office, on January 1.
In the same post, Bolsonaro adds, “Brazil—a paradise for criminals and a source of income for inhumane dictatorships—must make room for a Brazil whose Brazilian and good people will be our top priority.”
