Brazil has reported an increase in the number of deaths caused by COVID-19. According to the update released by the Health Ministry on Tuesday (Mar. 16), the country saw 2,841 deaths in 24 hours.

Brazil’s total death toll now stands at 282,127. There are also 3,045 deaths under investigation by state health teams.

The number of cases confirmed since the beginning of the pandemic is 11,603,535, with 83,926 cases registered in 24 hours. At least 10,204,541 (87.9 percent of the total infected) have recovered from the disease. There are also 1,116,867 people with an active case of the disease being assisted by health agents.

Figures are usually lower on Sundays and Mondays due to the lower amount of workers counting cases and deaths. On Tuesday, they tend to be higher, as previously unprocessed numbers from previous days are computed.

States

The list of Brazilian states with the highest COVID-19 death tolls is headed by São Paulo (64,902), Rio de Janeiro (34,445), Minas Gerais (20,715), Rio Grande do Sul (15,606), and Paraná (13,936).

Those with the lowest number of fatalities thus far are Acre (1,140), Amapá (1,195), Roraima (1,250), Tocantins (1,715), and Sergipe (3,163).
