The InfoGripe Bulletin released by Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz) shows that cases of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) continue to increase in most of the country. The growth was mainly due to the increase in COVID-19 cases, which correspond to 77.6 percent of those with a positive result for respiratory viruses in the last month. Although most cases are among adults, there was a predominance of COVID-19 among children up to 4 years of age who tested positive for respiratory viruses.
The analysis refers to the period from July 3 to 9. The growth was pointed in the long-term trend, that is, considering the last six weeks. The bulletin also shows that the increase was reported in 23 states. Only the Federal District, Goiás, Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo show stability or decline in this period.
According to Fiocruz, in the states in the Southeast, South, and Central-West regions of the country, there is a slowdown in the pace of growth. In the North and Northeast regions, however, there are signs of continued growth at a high pace. For the institution, this scenario may be associated with the fact that the southern half of the country started this growth process earlier, in April. In the northern half, this began in late May and early June.
