The largest solar power plants in Brazil have surpassed the 14 gigawatt mark in operating power, equaling the installed capacity of Itaipu—the planet’s second largest hydroelectric plant, installed in southern Brazil in partnership with neighboring Paraguay.
This achievement translates to a total installed capacity of 22 gigawatts (GW) of power in households, businesses, industries, rural properties, and public buildings.
The growing price increases in electricity bills and the reduction in the costs to install photovoltaic plates explain the growth of this type of energy in the country.
