Justice Alexandre Moraes wrote there was “strong evidence of materiality and authorship” of the planning of the murder by the three prisoners, as well as maneuvers to cover up the crime and hinder probes.
The brothers Domingos and Chiquinho Brazão, along with former Rio Civil Police chief Rivaldo Barbosa, were arrested on Sunday morning (24) during Operation Murder Inc.
The Rio de Janeiro State Civil Police Secretariat and the National Secretariat for Penal Policies, part of the Ministry of Justice, are also involved in the operation.
“The institute brings history back to life. […] The whole world wants to know who and why Marielle was killed,” Marinete da Silva, the councilwoman’s mother and founding adviser of the Marielle Franco Institute, told Agência Brasil.
The inquiry is being held in secret and no details can yet be obtained about the reasons that led the Federal Police and the Superior Court of Justice to send the case to the country’s top court.
