The state-run oil giant is Brazil’s top taxpayer, even though the sum is down from 2022’s BRL 279 bi. The decrease is in line with the company’s profits, which decreased 33.8% between 2022 and 2023.
The result represents a real increase of 0.1 percent from October 2022. January through October, tax collection reached BRL 1.9 tri—a real decrease of 0.68% against the first ten months last year.
The amount shows a real reduction of 0.42% from the same month last year. Federal taxes make up 60 percent of the country’s collection.
Companies struggle under a complex tax system, so unification is key to boost competitiveness, Alckmin said at a seminar for engineers. “We’re facing early de-industrialization. We’re not a rich country; we’re a developing country,” he added.
The value is the highest for the month since 2013. Against November last year, the increase stands at 3.25%. Year to date, collection added up to BRL 2 trillion, up 8.8%.
