Coach Tite to use alternative team against Cameroon
Brazilian coach Tite made it clear at a press conference Thursday (Dec. 1) he will use an alternative team in the match against Cameroon in the third round of Group G of the World Cup in Qatar. The teams will face each other at 4 pm Brasília time next Friday (2) at the Lusail stadium.
The decision was made because the seleção have already qualified for the round of 16 of the World Cup. Besides, Tite added, it will be a good chance to observe a match. “I can only ascertain how many athletes I can use in sequence based on their performance on the field. It’s a high-level opportunity for them to compete. Is it risky? Yes, but it’s an opportunity for them to showcase their skills in full,” the coach noted.
Tite mentioned striker Rodrygo. The Real Madrid player had opportunities in the two initial matches. “The game’s the key reference. I can’t rush it. The field speaks. The ball speaks. Did any of you definitely understand that Rodrygo could be used as much as he was? The ball speaks! The field speaks! So I have to give the athletes a chance.”
Among the confirmed choices against Cameroon is Daniel Alves, who also spoke in the interview. The 29-year-old defender will be the most experienced player to wear the yellow jersey in a FIFA World Cup. “It’s a years-long history, and now it’s time to wrap up the cycle on the Brazilian national team in a World Cup. It’s a great satisfaction for me,” he stated.
