The Minister of Communications, Fábio Faria, said this Friday (10) that the auction of the 5G was one of the most important bidding processes of the federal government and the “largest radio frequency event in Latin America”. The minister participated in a meeting promoted by the Brazilian Association of Internet and Telecommunications Providers (Abrint).

R$ 47.2 billion were collected at the auction. According to the ministry, of the total amount, R$ 42 billion will be reverted in investments to expand connectivity throughout the country.

The expansion of 4G is expected to benefit more than 7.4 thousand districts, villages or communities and 391 other municipal seats. According to the agreements signed, 36 thousand kilometers (km) of federal highways must receive the high-speed internet signal.

"5G will reach all Brazilian municipalities by 2029. And those locations that today have little or no connection will have the minimum fourth generation standard for mobile networks," said the minister.

The advisor to the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) Vicente Aquino said that the agency will verify whether the winning operators are complying with the considerations assumed in the auction, such as bringing connectivity to public schools and to the Amazon, as part of the Norte Conectado program.

According to Aquino, two working groups were created to monitor the operators, the Group for Monitoring the Cost of School Connectivity Projects (Gape) and the Group for Monitoring the Implementation of Solutions for Interference Problems in the range from 3,625 to 3700 MHz (Gaispi).
