Brazil signs agreements with UN to register immigrants and refugees
Brazil´s statistics agency IBGE has signed two agreements with United Nations agencies to survey refugees and immigrants in the census of this year.
Partnerships were signed with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
The agreements involve the entire country, but they will focus mainly on the Northern state of Roraima, due to the large flow of Venezuelan immigrants in recent years in this area.
The partnerships include, for instance, the planning of household surveys and discussions about the analysis of results.
According to IBGE, the support provided by UNHCR and IOM will make it possible to raise awareness among refugees and immigrants regarding the importance of participating in the census, the use of human resources with experience in this type of work, and the facilitation of access by census officers to shelters.
