President Jair Bolsonaro said the Brazilian government will maintain a balanced position towards the conflict between Ukraine and Russia. During his weekly social media live streaming on Thursday (Mar. 3), he said he supports and works for peace between both countries.

"Brazil remains in a position of balance. We are not able to solve this matter. We hope and - as far as possible - we will do everything for peace. The war will not bring benefits for either of the two countries, and even less for the rest of the world," he declared.

In an official statement, the UK government said British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Bolsonaro had spoken on Thursday (Mar. 3) about the situation in Ukraine.

"Both leaders agree with the demand for an urgent ceasefire in Ukraine and said peace must prevail," the note reads. "Brazil has been a vital ally during World War II and its voice was again crucial in this time of crisis," Boris Johnson said to the Brazilian president, according to the statement.

Bolsonaro and the British Prime Minister have also agreed on the importance of a global stability and discussed about collaboration on issues, such as security and trade, the note says.
