Brazil’s Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira was welcomed in Zagreb on Tuesday (Feb. 14) by the Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković. Discussed during the 40-minute meeting were bilateral relations and ways to boost trade, the Brazilian Foreign Ministry reported.

The two leaders also discussed both nation’s admission to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development. Both Brazil and Croatia are currently in the process of becoming members of the bloc.

“Andrej Plenković, a career diplomat, congratulated Minister Mauro Vieira on the beginning of his tenure and received with great interest the minister’s invitation to visit Brazil in the near future. He also reiterated his condemnation of the violent pro-coup uprising in Brazil,” the note reads.

Vieira also attended a working meeting at the Croatian chancellery, where he was received by Chancellor Gordan Grlić Radman. On the occasion, bilateral deals were signed on culture and education. The minister will meet tomorrow (15) with the president of Croatia, Zoran Milanović.

Last week, Vieira was in the US as part of President Lula’s entourage for the gathering with US President Joe Biden in Washington. The event is said to have marked the resumption of ties between the two countries, established nearly 200 years ago.
