Vice-President-Elect Hamilton Mourão said Monday (Nov. 19) that the future government plans to preserve Petrobras’s “core”, but with possible negotiations in sectors such as distribution and refinement.

After a morning with internal meetings at the Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil, where the transition government is based, Mourão also praised the name of Roberto Castello Branco, tapped by future Economy Minister Paulo Guedes as Petrobras’s CEO.

The economist, who has already accepted the invitation to take the helm of the oil giant, is on his way to Brasília and expected to talk to journalists this afternoon.

Cuban doctors

Mourão said he believes over half of the Cuban doctors working in the country under the More Doctors program will stay in Brazil. Medics will end up preferring to stay because they like it here, he argued.

When asked if Cuban doctors would be welcome to stay, Mourão noted Bolsonaro himself has already talked about the issue. Last week, the president-elect said that Cubans seeking asylum in Brazil will be assisted by the Brazilian government, and that the professionals interested in continuing to work in the country will have to take the degree re-validation exam.
