The new ministers of President Jair Bolsonaro’s administration took office this morning (Mar. 31) during a ceremony at the Planalto presidential palace.

The departure date, stipulated in the 2022 electoral calendar, allows those who left their posts to run for public office in the next October elections for president, senator, representative, and state governor.

During the inauguration ceremony, Bolsonaro thanked the former ministers and wished the new cabinet members good luck.

“I asked: Are you sure you’re going to take office? Because it’s not easy, you feel as if you were under a magnifying glass,” said Bolsonaro, adding he had met with the new leaders two days prior.

Who’s who

In the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, Minister Marcos César Pontes is succeeded by Paulo César Rezende Alvim. Rogério Marinho left the Ministry of Regional Development, which will now be headed by Daniel de Oliveira Duarte Ferreira.

The Ministry of Tourism will be led by Carlos Alberto Gomes de Brito, who will replace Gilson Machado. The Ministry of Citizenship, in turn, will be headed by Ronaldo Vieira Bento, who is occupying João Roma’s position. Damares Alves is leaving the Ministry of Women, Family, and Human Rights, which will be conducted by Cristiane Rodrigues Britto.

At the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, Onyx Lorenzoni has been replaced with José Carlos Oliveira.

At the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Supply, Minister Tereza Cristina will give way to Marcos Montes Cordeiro. At the Ministry of Infrastructure, Tarcísio Gomes de Freitas is out, and Marcelo Sampaio is swearing in.

Minister of the Government Secretariat Flávia Arruda is also leaving her post, to be replaced with Célio Faria Júnior. The former minister returns to her seat as a federal representative in the lower house.
