COVID-19: Brazil has 438,238 cases; death toll up to 26,754
The Health Ministry on Thursday (May 28) reported that 26,417 news people have become infected with COVID-19, bringing the total to 438,238 confirmed cases, up 26,417 from Wednesday’s (27) 411,821.
The updated official figures include 1,156 new deaths, which add up to a total 26,754—up 1,156 fro Monday, when 25,598 related deaths had been counted.
Of the total of confirmed cases, 233,880 are being monitored, and 177,604 have recovered. There are also 4,211 obits being investigated.
The lethality rate (deaths by the total amount of cases) stood at 6.1 percent. Mortality, in turn, was reported at 12.7 for every 100 thousand people.
São Paulo is still the epicenter of the disease in the country, with the highest number of deaths (6,980). The state is followed by Rio de Janeiro (4,856), Ceará (2,733), Pará (2,704), and Pernambuco (2,566).
Deaths have also been notified in the states of Amazonas (1,964), Maranhão (887), Bahia (570), Espírito Santo (538), Alagoas (385), Paraíba (318), Rio Grande do Norte (258), Minas Gerais (255), Rio Grande do Sul (213), Amapá (198), Paraná (169), Rondônia (142), Piauí (138), the Federal District (142), Santa Catarina (131), Sergipe (135), Acre (122), Goiás (115), Roraima (102), Tocantins (68), Mato Grosso (51), and Mato Grosso do Sul (18).
Considering the number of confirmed cases, the ranking includes São Paulo (95,865), Rio de Janeiro (44,886), Ceará (37,821), Amazonas (36,146), and Pará (33,699), in addition to Pernambuco (30,713), Maranhão (27,979), Bahia (15,963), Espírito Santo (12,203), and Paraíba (11,132).
