Some 7 thousand Brazilians to vote Sunday in Argentina
Brazilian voting machines are being set up in Argentina, where some 7 thousand Brazilian electors are eligible to vote—most of them (6,210) in the capital Buenos Aires. The machines will be tested on Friday (Oct. 5) and Saturday (6), the day before the elections in Brazil.
In Buenos Aires, the vote takes place in the Brazilian embassy building, where eight machines are being installed. This is where voters living in the capital as well as the provinces of Buenos Aires, Santa Fe, Entre Ríos, Chacho, Formosa, La Pampa, Neuquen, Río Negro, Chubut, Santa Cruz, and Tierra del Fuego.
The rest of the voters—approximately a thousand—will vote at the Brazilian consulates in the provinces of Córdoba and Mendoza.
The schedule is just like the official schedule in Brazil: polls open at 8 am and close at 5 pm. Authorized observers from NGOs are expected to attend the election.
In the last elections, only 50 percent of Brazilian voters in Argentina went to the polls. Brazilians overseas only vote for president, but they must have their voter’s details updated.
People in transit (tourists, for example) are not allowed to vote. In this case, they have to justify their absence from October 8 to December 6.
